Missoni for Target. Mmmmissoni...

Missoni for Target fall ad campaign featuring Margherita Missoni

As you know, I adore our fine country - I try to support Canadian brands wherever possible and I'm beyond proud that our little nation produces such a rocking body of fashion talent.  However, I do have a serious weakness for Target and whenever I find myself on the other side of the border, I get all tingly with anticipation when I see that beacon of bargains bulls-eye.  Still, I rarely make the effort to cross-border shop anymore, unless there's something remarkable to be had, especially since Target will be here soon enough.

The new Missoni for Target collection, however, is one designer collaboration that I simply can't pass up.  I must have that bicycle, my husband needs some printed ties and I'm seriously considering having a third child, just so that baby can wear a Missoni onesie.  Margherita, ci vediamo piu' tardi.  La tua bicicletta sarai mia!

The Missoni for Target collection will hit stores (and Target.com) September 13th.  Be sure to check out the cute and clever tumbl'r site dedicated to the launch here.   Magnifico!

Found: A Perfect Papaya Cardigan

Fall 2011 Cardigan by Jacob

Cardigans bring to mind words like 'practical', 'safe', and 'boooring'.  So, when I find a cardigan I love, I feel like everyone should know about it.  This piece of papaya perfection has swept me off my feet and at a glance, I swear it single-handedly cured me from the flu that hit our house last week.  One look at its brilliant colour, its luxurious silhouette and its simple gold buttons and I was smitten.  Luckily it's from Jacob and in stores now for only $79.  Don't you just love?!

Thanks for your patience with my slow posting ways last week.  This week should be a good one, though...my sister and I are meeting Jenna Lyons at Toronto's J.Crew launch party this Wed night.  Can't wait to give you all the inside scoop.  Eek!

I'll admit it:  I have a love-hate relationship with logos.  Seeing an iconic Chanel 'C' or a far-beyond-my-budget LV instantly brings to mind words like luxury, haute-couture and credit card debt.  There are days when I wish I could snatch up the latest celebrity It-bag and have a Birkin in every colour, just because I had so much money that, what else could I possibly do with it all?!  I get the twinges of jealousy, I understand the appeal, I feel the lust.

And yet, those same It-bags can often feel a little, for lack of a better word, cheap.  Seems counterintuitive given the hefty pricetags associated with designer bags, but there's just something about a girl plastered with logos that screams, "Hey everybodyyyy, see my Gucci bag?  See all the logos?!  I'm rolling in it, suckers!!!"  Don't get me wrong, I own a few logo pieces myself, but my latest obsession is the subtle, classic bag - the well-made, beautifully-designed bag that won't look dated in a year or two (see my top 10 relatively guilt-free picks above).  Maybe it is a jealousy thing or maybe I've just gotten tired of trying to compete, but to me, a beautiful, understated bag is miles more impressive than a loud, logo-plastered purse.  Shouldn't they be paying me to advertise for them?  I know I'm not the only one who feels this way - clean-lined, logo-free bags are being embraced by designers everywhere this fall and I'm loving the results.  Even Coach recently brought back its line of 'Classics', whose timeless appeal and un-fussy designs have won over legions of stylish fans.

Now, carry on.  Just be sure to carry away a simple, chic new fall bag as a little back-to-whatever gift.  They're always saying to love yourself first and I really can't think of a better way.  Hooray!

Wrap Star

Kapa Designs Adjustable Solid Brass Ring, around $10, etsy.com

If your ponytail is starting to feel more lazy than laissez-faire, take a cue from Dries Van Noten's Fall 2011 runway and wrap a sleek ring around it.  Use your regular snag-free elastic, then twist your hair as tight as you can and work an adjustable ring from the bottom of your pony up to the elastic.  I've found a bunch of under-$15 versions at ALDO Accessories and Forever 21 but this solid brass ring from Etsy is my absolute fave.  Genius!
