A Little Spirit

It's Hallowe'en and while I've tested out all the mini Kit Kats (somebody's gotta do it), carved my super cool pumpkins (thank you Pinterest) and gotten my little ones properly suited up for the spookfest, I haven't even thought about what to wear.   Sure, I could rent a wicked costume for $40 or just let it slide this year, but somehow, neither feels right.  

Hooray for stores like Claire's (or Shoppers Drug Mart, apparently) where you can get into the spirit for next to nothing.  I'll wear all black and throw on a fun little accessory like this fascinator, mask or tutu and voila! Instantly Boo-tiful.  

Oh, and by the way, how can you tell that a vampire has a cold?  Because of his coffin.  HA! sorry...Happy Hallowe'en! x

JEM and the Holograms LIVE at Holts

Before Gaga and WAY before the Biebs, there was the one (the only) JEM. Jem was her name, no one else was the same, Jem was her name.  In case you missed the memo, JEM and the Holograms are coming to Holts this holiday season! Squeee! Holt Renfrew stores across Canada will carry the first four characters from the original collection, including CLASSIC JEM, her alter ego JERRICA BENTON (owner of Starlight Music), magical holographic computer SYNERGY and RIO PACHECO, JEM's road manager and brooding love interest. Oh, Rrrrio...sigh...

Each character comes dressed in a truly, truly, truly outrageous look, which includes a set of rockin’ '80s accessories like knee-high holographic boots, oh-so-magical-and-infinitely-powerful starburst earrings and of course bad-ass loafers for Rio.  Hey, what's in the bag, Rio?

CLASSIC JEM, JERRICA BENTON, SYNERGY and RIO PACHECO are available for $125 each (limited quantities of 1 character per customer) at Holt Renfrew stores across Canada starting November 17th!  No sign of The Misfits yet - they must still be on tour... Um, best gift, like, ever!  

Is it too late to dress up like JEM for Hallowe'en?  I am SO making that happen!

P.S - Okay, I SO did not make it happen. Still, I see absolutely nothing wrong with busting out the iridescent purple tights on say, any given Friday night. I'm on it.

The cougar can frequently be seen in a padded bra, cleavage exposed, propped up against a swanky bar...waiting, watching, calculating; gearing up to sink her claws into an innocent young and strapping buck who happens to cross her path. I'm of the opinion that a cougar is born, not made.  My husband and I often have marital 'discussions' about cougs;  He believes that the simple act of throwing on a spotted scarf means you've bought yourself a 1-way ticket to Cougarville.  I, on the other paw, see it differently. From Paris to New York to Milan, chic girls everywhere understand the power of animal print. A leopard belt here or a python clutch there can spell the difference between boring and sublime. The cool-girl key?  It's all about small doses (ie. no more than one stand-out piece, with very few exceptions) and of course, the right print.  Oh, and if you're single and justhappen to score a hot young thing while you're at it? Bonus. Just sayin'...

Joe Fresh Spring '13

I could go on and on...Really I could.  But it's Friday at 4:00.  It's been a very long week, and it's Pizza/Movie Night at our house.  Yay! A picture (or 60ish in this case) says a thousand words and so I'll leave you with photos from Wednesday's Joe Fresh Spring 2013 show - always my favourite at World Mastercard Fashion Week.  For Spring, it was a mash-up of '60s mod, with graphic black & white prints, pops of bright yellow, soft blue and metallics, with a cameo by '60s model, Pat Cleveland.  So cool, so fun, so very Joe. My favourite looks? The white Pierrot-collar blouse with the pleated yellow skirt, the croco suit (w matching handbag - yum!), the Hitchcock-esque grey bird print pants with the printed blouse, and pretty much all of the metallic looks at the end.  Thanks for the invite, Joe!  More fashion week pics (including my fateful front row seat at Lucian Matis) next week.  TGIF! xoxo

LOFT Mobile Style Closet hits Toronto

To celebrate the first ever Canadian LOFT store opening at Yorkdale later this year, the Mobile Style Closet will be touring the streets of Toronto tomorrow (that's Friday, October 26) to give us a sneak peek at LOFT’s 2012 Holiday Collection full of pretty patterns, bright pops of festive colour and loads of sparkle.  LOFT Chief Style Director, Alia Ahmed-Yahia will be on board to meet and greet Toronto shoppers and one lucky winner has the chance to walk away with the entire contents of the Style Closet (approximately $2,000 value)! Be sure to arrive early - the first 25 guests at each stop will take home a surprise treat.
